Ship role and justification? Niou claims he is the Royal Official Executive Chief Cat Overseer on the ship, but really he’s just a scientist whose research at the moment is mostly centred around cats. Fitting with his ability to adapt well to new situations and his intelligence, Niou is looking at the effects of different environments on life forms, but his inbuilt laziness and preference for fun things and whimsy leads to more days just lounging around playing with the subjects of his studies than actually doing anything useful.

History: Always interested in science with a particular proclivity for the subject as he grew up, Niou ended up pursuing it. He made his application to work in space, stating that it gave him greater freedom to conduct his experiments under a variety of environmental conditions, with regular stops to other planets as further extensions of his research.

As a result, he’s been in space for a couple of years, with his menagerie of cats (and those of anyone else nearby), conducting ‘research’. Perhaps for a day or so, Niou was dedicated to his actual area of research, but it quickly descended into just logging daily cat behaviours that he nonetheless publishes and pretends like he’s doing work. As long as it keeps the funding coming in (which it does), he’s happy.

Journal sample:Day 53 of observation of subject M-27.

9:00 - M-27 was sleeping under the covers
9:27 - M-27 made huffing noises and rolled onto her side
9:30 - M-27 responded well to pats
10:00 - Still in bed. What is this hell
11:47 - Finally out of bed. M-27 stretched downward facing dog followed by upward facing dog before getting up to get food
12:04 - it was a lie. M-27 is back in bed. Now sleeping on her left side, curled into a donut shape.
12:06 - turned up the temperature in the room in the hopes that M-27 stops being a donut
12:24 - Room has warmed up sufficiently. M-27 is now a sausage
16:57 - Fell asleep. M-27 has not moved.
18:25 - M-27 is sniffing curiously at a carefully placed red ball. This seems to be an item of interest
18:27 - M-27 might actually play!
18:31 - False alarm. Back to bed.

A cat’s life is riveting. I feel like a newly wrung out sponge every day as I absorb the new information they present me.

Tag sample: He was going to do work today, he was absolutely determined. There was a deadline approaching for his next paper and he’d even written a sentence or two. Motivation was high.

At least until there as a soft prrrrp next to him and one of the cats - M-21 as he’d been officially named - jumped onto Niou’s lap and proceeded to sit down and get comfortable. Niou sighed and patted it, looking sadly over to the other side of the room. The rest of his notes were over there, but he simply couldn’t just get up right now with a cat on his lap… he was very aware of who he had to cater to their trust and how rude it was to disturb them.

What a shame, he’d just have to sit here and pat it until the cat got bored and left.

Ship role and justification? ~~Undercover~~ Security. With his small stature and his almost inhuman strength, Tooyama was employed as undercover security on the ship. He’s very impressionable and ~~maybe with threats~~ sometimes takes orders from people and generally easy to get along with. Just don’t annoy him or you’ll be facing Kin-chan brand justice ~~where he slams you to the ground and tries to break your face like he cracks walnuts~~ :D

History: Tooyama was originally enrolled at the Earth Aerospace Alliance Academy to become a flight officer, but as he was much more interested in challenging people to arm wrestle and body slamming them into the ground partway through, the academy thought it wise to reassign him into security training instead. He topped his year, his ridiculous physical scores making up for his rather abysmal scores in any sort of subtlety and deduction.

He’s newly assigned to the Karura, with some hope of the firm control Captain Tezuka has over his ship extending to Tooyama instead. His role is primarily that of undercover security, as he’s (hopefully) able to interact with the passengers without being detected to be able to have first hand access to passenger incidents. The higher-ups are so optimistic and hopeful.

Tag sample: Tooyama grunted and lifted up the heavy weights, huffing and puffing as he started squatting in time to the poppy music that he could hear over the speakers. There was a man standing just a few paces away who was staring at him in shock and Tooyama preened, showing off a bit as he lifted the barbell up over his head.

Maybe this place wasn't so bad with the FREE ACCESS GYM that was super impressive and Tooyama bounced a bit to the music some more.

As he went down for his next squat though, there was a rumble in his stomach and an accidental pfbbbttttt of air from him and Tooyama's mouth went into an O. Oops! "SORRY SORRY I DIDNT MEAN TO DO THAT OKEY IT JUST HAPPENED SORRY SORRY" he said loudly to the man who was still staring at him.

Anything else: This lulzy idea of “undercover security” will be busted within his first post. Let’s be real here.
