Ship role and justification? Head of Security.
He’s a tough no nonsense type of guy who also legitimately likes to help others out. He’ll sacrifice his own time and put forth all his energy into helping others. But he is also fully dedicated to his own training and mastering his strengths so as to minimize his weaknesses.

Basically he may not always be the best fighter around. But he’s good enough that when combined with his ability to ensure safety of those on board the ship and lead his security crew he ended up being an ideal candidate.

History: (What is their background? How did they come to be on the Karura?)

Shishido’s father was a teacher at the EAA Academy teaching geography and Shishido always thought that that was super cool. Growing up he had a total fascination with social studies and wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps in studying it. But Shishido also was in love with space. He would rewatch space themed movies until his brother would hit him upside the head. He dreamed of exploring new realms, meeting aliens and having amazing adventures.

It didn’t take too long before he realized that going into a field that focused on history or geography wouldn’t help him explore the stars. In the best case scenario he would be stuck in a lab looking at rocks on a ship while more likely he’d be stuck on earth as a teacher for the next batch of EAA cadets.

So he thought about his strengths and weaknesses and decided to focus on security with the goal of becoming head of security on a ship or at least a high ranking position. His dream was to get access to the bridge and always be invited on the best missions off of the ship.

His first year went exceptionally well and his cockiness started to get the best of him. In his second year at the academy he was humiliated in a friendly competition between fellow cadets and was shown just how far he still had to go.

Ashamed at his failure and worried his dream would never be reached he spent a week sulking and being pissed off at the world before doubling down on his training and focusing on his classes.

It wasn’t easy but he slowly climbed back up the ranks of his class and proved he had what was needed to lead not only a security team but the whole force of a ship.

When he got the call saying that he had been accepted onto the Karura he could hardly believe it. And when he found out that he would be head of security he celebrated so hard that it’s best not to ask how much he and his friends spent that night.

On the ship, he’s slowly settling into life and the reality that is his life in space. It sometimes still feels like a dream and to make sure he doesn’t wake up he often works extra hard at enforcing ship security and safety and on his own training.

Though working with some members of his team *cough*Toyama*cough* certainly help him realize that this isn’t a dream but every day life. There’s never a boring day in security!

Also, because of his love of space and growing up surrounded by EAA life, he’s completely devoted to the EAA’s quest and wants Captain Tezuka’s mission to succeed.

A reminder to everyone who has their phaser retraining coming up. Don’t be lame and sign up to get it done. If you don’t do it and your training expires I’m going to send Toyama after you to confiscate your phasers until you do.

Also why do some people still forget to wipe down training equipment when they’re done with it? There’s like a million signs around the place, too. It’s really uncool. And if I catch anyone doing it I’m not above throwing you in the hold for a few hours.

Shishido looked down at the reports on his desk and scowled. Somehow, through all his dreams and training he never really thought about just how much paperwork was involved with being the head of security. Though maybe his dreams and training just never took into account one Toyama Kintarou and the chaos that seemed to be left in his wake. Shishido couldn’t fault the guy for doing good work… but he definitely faulted him for doubling his desk work.

Deciding that it was way too lame to do all at once, he stood and decided to go see if he could hunt down a cheese sandwich somewhere. If not, maybe there’d be something fun going down at the bar. He was officially off the clock so he was sure the ship would survive if he put off some work until tomorrow.

Shishido checked to make sure his uniform was looking sharp and his phaser was situated comfortably at his hip before he headed out from his office.

“Hey, Kenta, I’m heading out for the night. Page me if you need me,” Shishido said to the officer who would be holding down the fort through the midnight hours.

Getting a nod and a yes, sir… and didn’t that just still make him want to beam like an idiot, he left the main security offices and strode confidently down the ship’s halls, still amazed that he was not only on the Karura but was an officer on it. Life was good… even with a lame stack of paperwork on his desk.

And don’t mind Shishido who is part excited puppy about being in space and it being so awesome and also part dedicated security officer who will make you respect the rules!!
